Who builds this

I sell trading card singles on eBay — Archive of Legends, on there since 2000 — so the shelf this was built for is my own. The addressing did not come from cards.
From 2007 I consulted for a storage company holding over a million records. Nothing there is filed alphabetically: re-filing a million things is not a job anyone does twice. An item goes wherever there is room, and the system records where that was. That is the model Stowdesk uses.
Those years were not consecutive. The same span covered two other jobs: eight years at Filing Supplies Online, a filing-products distributor, as operations manager and the developer who built its ecommerce systems; and thirteen years at a secure destruction company, the last four and a half as VP of operations. The dates and titles are on LinkedIn. Filing Supplies Online stocked about 2,000 SKUs and listed about 4,000, which is normal for a distributor carrying a manufacturer's catalog and holding the movers. On eBay that would be backwards: listing what you do not hold is how an account collects cancellations.
Chain of custody
Secure destruction work is chain of custody: an item is in a known place, in known hands, at every point, and you can show it afterward. Cost basis is the same shape. It follows one item through storage, a sale, a refund and a return, and it has to still be right at the end. I ran that where getting it wrong was a compliance failure rather than a bad month.
Why the standard model does not fit
Building the ecommerce side is why I know it does not. Ordinary inventory software counts quantity per SKU: five of one thing, interchangeable. A shelf of singles is not like that. Each item has its own condition, its own cost and its own address, and the moment two of them share one record you have lost which is which. Stowdesk enforces one SKU, one physical item, in the database rather than by convention.
